News, Past, Present and Future - July 2011

Yes, it was hot. However, we had a good time and if you missed it, shame on you. From what I saw of the weather report the only way you could avoid the heat was to go to Canada.
Some of us arrived on Wednesday while the balance of our group arrived on Thursday. When we took a head count we had the Severes, Cooks, Carliles, Lynchs, Couchs, Nashs, Genrichs, Ginny Weaver and special guests Phyllis Anderson, plus a Genrich granddaughter, Sidney and a Severe granddaughter, Stephanie.
Thursday started with our usual reception. We had slightly more than a light snack. Served to all were Subway sandwiches, potato salad, chips, cookies, coffee and ice tea. After the meal and all of the conversation the never ending game resumed. We also had an outdoor seminar on the world’s finances.
Friday began with an outdoor coach-side breakfast of coffee, orange juice, lemon pound cake and spice bars. Close to noon we departed for the College of the Ozarks in Hollister. We had an outstanding lunch in the Keeter Center. At this facility you can have a meal, spend the night and/or go to a conference. After lunch we journeyed to the Ralph Foster museum on college grounds. This museum concentrates on the 20th century history of the Ozarks with an emphasis on all of the country and western music stars of the region. Ralph Foster owned KWTO in Springfield that carried the Ozark Jubilee in the 50s. The Jubilee was hosted by Red Foley and had all of the big C&W stars of the day and was broadcast throughout the Midwest. The rest of the day was left open for members to do as they pleased in Branson. We all know there is plenty to do in this area.
Saturday also began with a breakfast but we moved indoors to the game room because we scheduled a business meeting following the meal. Results of the meeting are in this newsletter. For breakfast we dined on eggs, potatoes, ham, toast, coffee and orange juice. After breakfast and the meeting several members went off to find bargains among the many Branson retail stores while some of the more hard core went back to their card game. Saturday afternoon we assemble at McFarlain’s restaurant for a rousing meal. However, I think that McFarlain’s has slipped a notch. That night the Lynchs attended the presentation of Noah at the Sight and Sound theater. When they returned to their coach they found they had no electricity. Maybe this was a message from a higher power. Rather than spend the night trying to solve the problem in the dark they departed for home.
On Sunday we had our get-away breakfast coach-side.
We are not having a rally in August due to the FMCA Family Reunion in Madison, Wisconsin which you are encouraged to attend. Our next get together is at the Six State Rally in Hutchinson, Sept 25.
Six State Rally. As you should remember we are one of the volunteer chapters for this rally. We have seven volunteer coaches; Severes, Cooks, Nashs, Genrichs, Sidebottoms, Careys and Carliles. On Sunday, September 25, we are going to assemble at a holding area in Hutchinson and then enter the rally grounds as a group, to be parked as a group. I know of three other coaches parking with the volunteer group; Lynchs, Mathis’ and Thorntons. Also at the rally will be the Couchs and McVays who are part of the Six State Cadre. That adds up to 12 HOA coaches and I would like to see more members attend. We will have a pre-rally Sunday evening which will include election of officers. Sometimes a member not in attendance will get picked for on office, so beware. I will be sending each attending member more detailed information via email at a later date.
Halstead. Following the Six State rally we will have our October rally at Spring Lake Resort in Halstead, KS about 20 miles east of Hutchinson. A flyer for that rally is with this newsletter. This should be a fun rally and it is the last of this year. This is a link to the park: http://www.springlakervresort.com/
Finally, the one thing that I cannot convey in a newsletter is the good times we have at these rallies. It is a pleasure to see, socialize with, and learn from others who enjoy this lifestyle. You just have to attend one to truly understand.
